Last weekend was our DSC Club Regatta. With thanks to our silver sponsor AIRPOWER, it was a successful weekend event, starting on Friday with a briefing night, tropical sailing all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon with a party in-between and wrapped up with presentation Sunday night.
What a weekend it was, with all races contributing to the DSC Championships, we had 31 sailing boats, 48 Sailors on the water, a team of volunteers including our PRO John “Simo” Simondson and our Commodore Lucille Panting, it truly was a whole club event.
Our Minnows fleet have grown from strength to strength this year and is shown in this weekend’s racing with Flash Lucas Atkins have ‘the best race of his career’ as did Jeremy Atwell on Sonic. Third Place went to Sea Monkey Harry Duignan, second place Yknot? Leo Batenburg on 6 points with two first and two seconds, and first place on count back goes to Ozone Fynn Goat, with two seconds and two first. Congratulations all to our minnow fleet for great sailing!
Our Laser fleet, with close racing across the 14 strong fleet, third place over all on yardstick goes to Calmer Suture II Phil Toonson, 2nd place Ovazelus William McGrath, who sailed exceptionally well in his 4.7 with two first places, but it wasn’t enough to beat 1st place Dogmatix Aden McGrath who took out overall and radial. Standard Rig winner was River Linc our life member Gary Martin.
Our Div 7 really made the most of the sea breeze on Sunday afternoon and were flying, 3rd place going to Sea Cow 1, Frank Peacocke, 2nd place Supernova Peter Gibb, our tornado have great battle with our regatta winner Elementool Brendon Dally.
Our Mixed Fleet of sports boats, multihulls, keelboats and trailer sailors enjoyed a light tropical wash on during our raft up at lunch on Saturday, and despite some tricky tides and gas ships, enjoyed some fabulous racing with 3rd Place MEG, Grant Davis a new boat to club, 2nd Place Cockatoo Deb Negus and 1st place Shaw Thing Tom Griffith.
The sailing was tropical, the dancing was fabulous, the best dressed competition was spectacular, won by the Goat Oompa Loompas, attendance was great with Andrew Scott taking out a free 2023 club membership for the attendance draw and the smiles were shining this regatta. A massive thank you to all the volunteers, including Anne Lahy, and her apprentice Sookie McGrath for the brilliant regatta photos.
