5 August 2022
In a major announcement yesterday the NT Government committed a total of $4M to the activation of Bundilla Beach and the renewal of the successful security patrol that operated last wet season.
From my first meeting with the neighbouring clubs as General Manager in 2020, we have been campaigning in unison for activation in this area to help reduce the anti-social problems that stem from there. We have attended numerous meetings with all the Stakeholders in the region, from our Electorate Officer, Darwin City Council, Dept of Chief Minister, Police, Larrakia Nation, Minister for Police and Territory Families and more.
As a result of the efforts of all clubs over the last few years, to see that we will now see lighting installed from the Darwin Sailing Club to the Ski Club, 4 powered for food vans, new irrigation and a half basketball court in the Bundilla Beach area is vindication for our work. This should help bring communities into the area and create a vibrant and safe space between the clubs, at the same time reducing the issues that have been spilling over on to club premises with increasing regularity.
Whilst these works are being undertaken the Security Patrol that worked so well last season will be restarted, providing a constant night-time presence in the area and allowing for Members and Guests of all 4 clubs plus Tactile Arts to have positive experiences when patronising our fantastic venues.
We look forward to seeing them back in action.
Lee Harris,
General Manager
